Overview
The Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is a five-year dual-degree offering by select IIMs — most notably IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak — designed for students entering directly from Class XII. It combines three years of undergraduate study in management foundations with two years of postgraduate MBA-level coursework, and successful graduates exit with both a BBA (Foundations of Management) and an MBA from the same IIM.
Admission to the flagship IIM Indore IPM programme is highly competitive: IIM Indore offers 120 seats across the incoming cohort and shortlists candidates through a national aptitude test (IPMAT) followed by a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview.
Eligibility
Candidates who wish to apply for the IIM Indore IPM programme must satisfy the following conditions:
- Have passed the Class X (SSC) and Class XII (HSC) examinations from a recognised board, or equivalent, in the year of application or one year prior.
- Score at least 60% aggregate marks in both Class X and Class XII (55% for candidates from SC, ST and PwD categories).
- Be within the maximum age limit prescribed for the programme [as per official notification] — the customary rule references July 31 of the year of intake as the cut-off date.
- Foreign nationals holding an Indian passport are eligible; candidates from Nepal are eligible under the standard rules.
Selection Process
Selection to the IPM programme happens in three stages:
- IPMAT Aptitude Test — a Computer-Based Test conducted by IIM Indore.
- Written Ability Test (WAT) — a short written response, evaluated for clarity of thought and structure of argument.
- Personal Interview (PI) — a panel interview conducted at designated centres.
Candidates clearing each stage progress to the next; the final merit list combines all three components in the weightages shown below.
Final Computation
| Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| IPMAT Aptitude Test | 50% |
| Personal Interview | 35% |
| Written Ability Test | 15% |
IPMAT Test Pattern
The IPMAT (Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test) is a 120-minute Computer-Based Test with three sections. Each section is timed independently — you cannot move between sections once a section timer starts.
| Section | Question Type | No. of Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Ability (MCQ) | Multiple Choice | 30 | 40 minutes |
| Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) | Short Answer (type-in) | 15 | 40 minutes |
| Verbal Ability | Multiple Choice | 45 | 40 minutes |
| Total | 90 | 120 minutes |
Marking Scheme
- +4 marks for every correct answer.
- −1 mark for every incorrect multiple-choice answer.
- 0 marks for unattempted questions.
- The Quantitative Ability Short-Answer section has no negative marking — attempt every question you can reason through.
Written Ability Test (WAT)
Candidates who clear the IPMAT cut-off are invited to a Written Ability Test conducted along with the Personal Interview. Candidates are given a short topic — usually related to current affairs, social issues or a general management theme — and asked to write a structured response within a fixed time. The response is evaluated for coherence, clarity of expression, structure of argument, and originality of thought. WAT contributes 15% to the final composite score.
Personal Interview
The Personal Interview is conducted by a panel of IIM Indore faculty and, occasionally, industry experts. Panels typically probe your academic background, extracurricular record, interests, awareness of current affairs and broader analytical thinking. There is no fixed script — the interview is designed to assess personality, communication and thought process. PI contributes 35% to the final composite score.
Fee Structure
The IIM Indore IPM fee is charged on a per-year basis and differs across the undergraduate and postgraduate portions of the five-year programme. Indicative figures:
| Year | Programme Phase | Fee (per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Undergraduate foundations | ₹4,00,000 |
| Year 2 | Undergraduate foundations | ₹4,00,000 |
| Year 3 | Undergraduate foundations | ₹4,00,000 |
| Year 4 | Postgraduate (MBA-equivalent) | ₹16,00,000 |
| Year 5 | Postgraduate (MBA-equivalent) | ₹16,00,000 |
Fees are subject to revision by the institute; scholarships and financial-aid options are available for eligible candidates.
Course Curriculum
The five-year IPM curriculum is organised around three broad phases:
- Years 1–3 (Foundations) — courses in mathematics, statistics, economics, psychology, sociology, political science, communication, humanities and computing. This phase builds the analytical and conceptual foundation for management studies.
- Year 4 (Bridge to Management) — core management courses covering finance, marketing, operations, strategy, HR and organisational behaviour, alongside a mandatory summer internship at the end of the year.
- Year 5 (MBA Electives) — advanced electives across finance, marketing, strategy, analytics and entrepreneurship; a capstone project; and pre-placement engagement with the recruiter cohort of the IIM Indore MBA batch.
Graduates receive an integrated Bachelor of Management Studies (Foundations of Management) and a Master of Business Administration on successful completion of all five years.
